Local Hike Series: April Meet-up — Easter Sunrise Hike

SUNRISE ON EASTER MORNING

Local Hike Series April Meet-up

After watching the sunrise from Piney Hill, we will hike the Pine Warbler Trail down into Copperas Creek, then back up via the Piney Hill Spur (~1.0 miles total)

This will be a family-friendly dayhike on an easy trail. Please bring your own snacks and water.

Cost: Must pay day use fee at park office

NOTE: Because meet-up time is prior to Park Office hours, you will need to use the self-check in kiosk and pay with CASH or a TX State Park Pass

  • Adults – $5

  • Child (12 years & under) – Free

  • Free entry for everyone in your vehicle with a TX State Parks Pass

Date: April 20, 2025

Time: 6:45 AM (Sunrise is at 7:10 AM)

Location: Meet at the Piney Hill Area ADA Restroom and Playground

Local Hike Series March Meet-up

Description from LCRA website:

“McKinney Roughs Nature Park is a 1,100-acre nature park along the Colorado River welcoming adventure seekers to explore the variety of activities offered. A multiuse trail system of up to 18 miles of trails through the Lost Pines is available to hikers, mountain bikers and equestrian users. Visitors can enjoy guided group activities such as team building, challenge course obstacles, kayaking and river rafting trips, and UTV tours to observe the native flora and fauna in the area.”

This will be a family-friendly dayhike on an easy trail. Please bring your own snacks and water.

Cost: Must pay day use fee at park office

  • Adults – $5

  • Children (12 and younger) – Free

  • Seniors (65 and older), Military and Disabled – $2

  • Free with LCRA Parks Pass

This is a private event with SUMMIT Outdoor Leadership supporting the school Rosanky Christian Academy.

10:00AM — Arrive @ Bastrop State Park

  • Meet @ parking next to Dining Hall/Park Pool (slight left from main entrance road)

  • TPWD Naturalist Lesson - Local wildlife

  • Leave No Trace for Kids

  • Day hike w/ Scavenger Hunt Bingo

NOON — Lunch (Please back school lunch!)

  • Team-building Games & Debrief

Join our SUMMIT volunteers/staff for a casual picnic & pocket-size adventure at McKinney Roughs Nature Park!

  • Pack your lunch & we'll chow down before we hit the trails. This adventure is for all ages, so bring the whole family!

  • You'll pay your own entrance fee, then meet us on the porch right outside the main office.

  • Don't forget sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, & water bottles.

Let's take a hike! Join our SUMMIT volunteers/staff for a quick sunset adventure in Bastrop State Park!

This casual meetup is just a chance to enjoy the outdoors with friends -- new and old! We'll do some light hiking and casual conversations about nature appreciation, LNT principles, and trail tips along the way. We enjoy finding a good ol' pocket of wilderness to engage in outdoor recreation and celebrate God's creation. Learn more about our other Pocket Wilderness programs at www.summitlead.org/pocket-wilderness

  • Pay your own park entrance fee & meet us at the parking lot next to the pool. We'll aim to hit the trails right at 5:30, so arrive early to be ready by then! (Or make arrangements with us to meet elsewhere if needed.)

  • Pack some snacks or a simple picnic dinner & bring the whole family.

  • Be sure to wear sturdy shoes & comfortable clothing (weather appropriate), & don't forget to bring a water bottle.

  • We look forward to exploring with you!
